As summer is fast approaching you may notice that there are a lot of fundraisers going on for the charities you support. In most cases these are authentic and legitimate fundraisers or fundraising individuals, but sometimes people will try to use the name of a well-known charity to get money for less than admirable purposes.
To help you know the real from the fake, we’ve put together a guide to the ways that SickKids Foundation raises money. If you do encounter someone fundraising for SickKids and suspect they may not be legitimate, please feel free to e-mail us (donor.inquries@sickkidsfoundation) or call us (416.813.6166) for confirmation.
SickKids Foundation raises critical funds in a variety of ways. You can find out about the events, miracle club, tribute/legacy programs and giving societies detailed on our website, here are a few of the other unique ways we reach out to donors in our community.
Direct Dialogue
Over the last six years, Public Outreach has led a face-to-face fundraising campaign for SickKids Foundation. Public Outreach engages in honest, respectful and effective fundraising to ensure the best possible results for their clients, and the most enjoyable work experience for their employees. Accordingly, they are completely non-commission-based and offer a competitive entry-level wage. Direct dialogue employees are not permitted take cash donations and must carry identification to show they are Public Outreach employees while face-to-face fundraising. They engage potential donors on the street and in malls.
Public Outreach canvassers can also be identified by what they wear. They will always have either a SickKids Foundation branded vest (logo on the back and front) or a blue SickKids Foundation t-shirt. All canvassers carry an ID badge with their picture and the Foundation’s contact information as well as a binder with a SickKids Foundation logo on cover.
If you would like more information on the Direct Dialogue Program and to find out if they are in your area, please contact Vanessa Teall, Assistant Manager – Donor Acquisition at 416.813.6166 ext. 2024 or via e-mail vanessa.teall@sickkidsfoundation.com.
Door to Door
The Door to Door program is designed to gain support from our community. It is a respectful face to face interaction seeking out donors who are committed to making long-term monthly pledges. Eye To Eye Acquisition Inc., Canada’s leader in face-to-face fundraising runs the Door to Door program for SickKids Foundation. Their canvassers are non-commissioned representatives and are not permitted to take cash donations. Canvassers also must carry Eye To Eye Acquisition Inc. identification while Door to Door fundraising.
