It started with an earache but resulted in something much worse than a common childhood ear infection. A series of test confirmed Helena had cancer at age three.

Her parents soon learned the ins and outs of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a rapidly progressive cancer most common in young children. Needles, procedures and chemotherapy at The Hospital for Sick Children became the norm for little Helena as doctors began her treatment protocol.

At first, Helena found the hospital quite scary. But after a few visits she has learned to cope and even looks forward to seeing her favourite nurses and the Therapeutic Clowns who brighten her day.
