Humanitarian-Awards

hu·man·i·tar·i·an - A person devoted to promoting the welfare of humanity, especially through the elimination of pain and suffering. There’s no better word that accurately describes the work of SickKids newest honourees.

The Humanitarian Awards, held last night at SickKids, honoured students, staff and volunteers at SickKids who exemplify the qualities of humanitarianism and provide the best possible care to patients and families each and every day.

The recipients were nominated by their colleagues or by families who have been touched by their dedicated, care and compassion.

We congratulate the recipients and nominees who strive to help children fulfill their hopes and dreams. You are our everyday heroes.

The list of winners is below:

Student Humanitarian Award - $1,000 prize

  • Dr. Walla Al-Hertani, Division of Clinical and Metabolic Genetics        
  • Dr. Omer Bar Yosef, Division of Neurology        
  • Dr. Bruno Leslie, Division of Pediatric Urology  

Volunteer Humanitarian Award:  

  • Ms. Julie Glazier, Volunteer, Women’s Auxiliary - The Reading Room        
  • Mr. John Sheehy, Volunteer, Volunteer Resources  

Family-Centred Care Advisory Council Award:  

  • Dr. Jonathan Hellmann, NICU Director, Division of Neonatology        

Robert Salter Humanitarian Award:

  • Anne Ayling-Campos, Physical Therapist, Chronic Pain Clinic, Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine  
  • Christine Chiu-Man, EP Technologist, Labatt Family Heart Centre  

Claus Wirsig Humanitarian Award:  

  • Angela Bascino, ECG Technician, Labatt Family Heart Centre
