Complementary & Alternative Health Care

The Complementary and Alternative Health Care (CAHC) program was established in 2002 following a national forum that identified widespread and increasing use of CAHC with children and the need for knowledge upon which to base practice and policy. The CAHC Grants Program sought to promote research and leadership capacity by funding research and training and by providing opportunities for knowledge exchange, dialogue and networking.

Changes to Support of Paediatric Complementary & Alternative Health Care

As of the Fall 2008, the National Grants Program of SickKids Foundation will direct its research funding to priority areas of children's health needs as announced in specific Request for Applications.

Going forward, there will no longer be separate calls for research grant applications in the area of Complementary & Alternative Health Care (CAHC). However, the Foundation encourages applications in areas of CAHC research that are directly relevant to our current Request for Applications as we recognize that research responding to children's health needs may be done through conventional medicine or complementary and alternative health care (CAHC) or natural health products.

For information about paediatric complementary and alternative health care, we encourage you to visit the website of the Paediatric Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research and Education Network (PedCAM). Supported by funding from SickKids Foundation, PedCAM promotes paediatric CAHC networking and interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge transfer to practitioners, policy makers and children and families, leadership, innovation, partnerships in CAHC research and education and research opportunities.
