Grants
Improving the health of children.
National Grants Program
The National Grants Program awards more than $3-million annually to registered Canadian charities, including universities and hospitals. Several years ago, SickKids Foundation adopted a new vision for its National Grants Program that allows the Foundation to be more strategic in its granting.
Through the National Grants Program the Foundation can build upon SickKids' work as an international leader in paediatric health care, education, and research. The framework for this strategic vision consists of two principle foci; development of research skills, and knowledge generation in specific areas.
Development of Research Skills
Through scholarships, fellowships, and research project funding, the Foundation develops new investigators in paediatric health sciences and care, ensuring that the breadth and quality of Canadian child health research continues to grow. As part of research development we fund:
- New Investigators Research Grants Program
- Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program
- Pediatric Scientist Development Program
Knowledge Generation in Specific Areas
Through focused strategic grant programs, the Foundation will encourage the creation, evaluation, application, and dissemination of new knowledge around specific issues in child health. Projects funded may span the continuum from applied research to policy research to public education, intervention, and advocacy and will complement the community-based work of SickKids.
SickKids Foundation's National Grants Program has an important role in child health research - an integral partner in the child health community.
- Dr. Ian Manion
Currently our funding is focused in three areas:
- Child and Youth Home Care
- Complementary and Alternative Health Care and Paediatrics
- Conference Grants
Children's Health Agenda
We believe that there is a role for SickKids Foundation to play by supporting the creation of a national agenda for children's health care. This will be achieved when issues of child health are reflected in policy, systems, research and practice, as demonstrated through improved coordination of services, movement to common standards and policy change.
Children's Health Agenda Grants will support the operating costs of national groups that are working towards an integrated and cohesive approach to child health in Canada. Funded organizations will, by establishing pan-Canadian networks and collaborative groups, be positioned to share knowledge, advocate, and influence child health policy, systems, research and practice.
