The Rotman Award

Paediatric Home Care Innovation

The Rotman Award for Paediatric Home Care Innovation has been created to help grow and advance the work of important home care delivery systems, ultimately enabling better care and treatment for Canadian children. This $100,000 award for innovation and best practices has been made possible through a generous gift from Janis Rotman. The Rotman Award is offered through the Children & Youth Home Care Network (CYHN), a network funded by SicKids Foundation.

Any Canadian non-profit organization delivering home and community health care services to infants, children, youth and their families is eligible to be nominated or self-nominate. Award recipients must demonstrate best practices and innovation.

The purpose of the Rotman Award is threefold:

  • to recognize successful and innovative home and community health care programs serving children, youth and families in Canada.
  • to identify and promote examples of best practice program or organizational models from which other organizations can learn
  • to encourage further innovation in the winning organization by awarding a cash prize
The next deadline for nominations is January 31, 2008.

"Over the last year, as the first Rotman Award winner, IACS has amplified our unique educational outreach program, reaching more families, more caregivers and thus facilitating more home care for children with complex needs. We have presented information about our program far beyond the borders of our service."

- Dr Hema Patel, Program Head, Intensive Ambulatory Care Services (IACS), Montreal, Quebec - 2006 Rotman Award recipient organization

"Capital Health Home Care Children's Services of Edmonton was one of the first community-based paediatric home care programs in Canada. As part of such a large health region, it is somewhat competitive to get the messages of need to the decision-makers. Decisions are based on information and data. Research and evaluation is necessary to advance in any area in healthcare. With the Rotman Award, we will be able to do just that."

- Laurene Black, Regional Manager, Home Care Children's Services, Capital Health Edmonton Area - 2007 Rotman Award recipient organization
