Fairchild Radio Listeners Raise Nearly $110,000 for SickKids

The fourth annual Fairchild Radiothon was held on Thursday, October 21 and raised almost $110,000 for SickKids Foundation, reaching their goal in the closing minutes of the program.

From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., 22 families and SickKids staff from the Chinese community shared their inspirational stories in an effort to raise funds for The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The event was broadcast live all day from the Atrium at SickKids.

“This is a tremendous community of people who today have really expressed their support for SickKids,” said Christy Sampson, Fundraising Event Manager, SickKids Foundation. “We are grateful for the support from AM1430 and FM88.9 and their volunteers, the families who bravely shared their stories and all the generous community members who made a donation to help make this fourth annual Radiothon a success.”

To close this year’s Fairchild Radiothon, SickKids patient, Hugh Peng, 14, shared his story. In 2009, Hugh was diagnosed at SickKids with a severe heart condition, requiring a heart transplant to survive. In March 2010, Hugh received a new heart and was up and walking two days following his surgery.

Funds raised during the 11-hour event are used to fund child health research, and contribute to the medical outreach program and the purchase of medical equipment. To date, the event has now raised more than $350,000 for SickKids, Canada’s most research intensive hospital.
