Children’s Circle of Care
Founded in 1995, The Children's Circle of Care (CCC) is an international organization made up of 22 of North America's most prestigious children's hospitals and their foundations, including The Hospital for Sick Children. The mission of CCC is to advance philanthropy in support of patient care, teaching, research and advocacy through educating and recognizing leading benefactors of participating children's hospitals. Today, annual sustained support to SickKids Foundation from our CCC members plays a critical role in our ability to provide excellent clinical care, advance ground- breaking research and improve education and advocacy. Donors contributing at the $10,000 and over level annually, become members of the Children’s Circle of Care and have the opportunity to participate in the annual leadership conference, hosted by a different CCC hospital every year in their city of origin.
Community Involvement
The support of our community is one of the keys to our success. Fundraising events held by our community partners allow the Foundation to increase fundraising revenues and gives the organization holding the event an opportunity to support and be associated with SickKids. There are over 800 events organized annually in support of the Foundation!
Corporate Partnerships
As the name implies, this fundraising program allies SickKids with some of the top corporations in Canada. Relationships are developed philanthropically, through marketing initiatives or through SickKids’ membership in the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). CMN is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America.
Foundation Relations
The role of the Foundation Relations team is to develop and expand relations with private foundations and small family foundations located in Canada, the US and around the world. In Canada alone there are more than 2,300 active grant making foundations with assets of approximately $12 billion. Relationships are established with philanthropic foundations that are interested in advancing children’s health and/or medical research.
Greeting Cards
The Holiday Greeting Card program provides companies and individuals with a unique opportunity to make seasonal donations in honour of their customers/clients, friends, and family members. In return for their donation, they receive acknowledgement cards (non-denominational, but a winter setting making it "seasonal") with three different text options available to them, conveying the message that a donation has been made in honour of the recipient of the card, and letting the recipient know who made that donation in their honour. The donor also receives a tax receipt so they benefit too!
Integrated Direct Marketing
The Foundation’s Integrated Direct Marketing programs are important sources of undesignated funds for the Hospital The direct marketing programs provide current and potential donors with several opportunities throughout the year to support the Hospital at the times that are best for them. Also, new donor acquisition is a key element of these programs.
- Direct Mail: The Foundation’s direct mail program is one of the key methods used to solicit existing donors who give under $10,000 annually. Through a detailed mailing schedule, the program renews and upgrades donors. As well, through the rental of selected mailing lists, several thousand new donors are acquired on an annual basis.
- Telemarketing: The telemarketing program is focused on upgrading and renewing existing and lapsed donors. It allows for more personal interaction and relationship development with donors. Telemarketing is also used to introduce monthly giving to our donors and to enroll them in the Miracle Club monthly giving program.
- Door to door: The Door to Door program is designed to gain support from our community. It is a respectful face to face interaction seeking out donors who are committed to making long-term monthly pledges. The canvassers visit various neighborhoods throughout the GTA and some regional markets.
- DRTV: Throughout the year, the Foundation produces various length television programs that are featured on many television stations both locally and nationally. The programs vary in length from 30 seconds to 60 minutes. The programs allow viewers to get up close and personal with the kids, families, researchers and physicians at SickKids together with the opportunity to give a one-time gift or become a monthly donor.
Major Gifts
Gifts at every level are very important to the work of the Foundation. Major Gifts are defined as gifts over $100,000 or more and support many of the priority initiatives at the hospital. The Major Gifts team works very closely with donors, often times over many months or even years, to provide high level information about SickKids and to identify funding opportunities aligned with the donor’s area of interest.
Radiothon
Each year, Standard Broadcasting, through its three Toronto radio stations, CFRB 1010, 99.9 MIX FM, and 97.3 FM EZ Rock, mount a spectacular three-day radiothon in support of SickKids Foundation. The Radiothon, which culminates in a 3-station simulcast the last hour of the last day, features patient stories and interviews with families and staff. The focus of the program is to acquire and renew monthly donors. Last year, the radiothon broke the North American record for funds raised (a record it had set itself the previous year!), with an amazing total of $3.7 million.

SickKids Leaders
SickKids Leaders (SKL) is a dynamic group of professionals who commit their time and energy to raising money for SickKids. SKL is designed to garner annual support from individuals at a leadership level of $1,000 to $10,000. Since its inception, SickKids Leaders has raised over $17 million, has drawn the support of over 190 business leaders and has grown across 20 industry sectors. SKL offers its Leaders a platform on which they can give back to their community. In return, SickKids offers meaningful opportunities for Hospital, Foundation and community involvement through tours, guest speakers, networking and social gatherings.
Tribute
Tribute gifts are a meaningful way to make a donation in the name of friends or family members. They may be "in honour" donations to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and Bar Mitzvahs, or in memoriam donations in tribute of someone who has passed on. This program is staffed by an in-house call centre to accept and acknowledge gifts and provide thank you cards to the tributed parties.
Workplace Fundraising
Over 250 workplace groups fundraise for SickKids Foundation through office events, payroll deductions, casual Fridays, golf tournaments, ShopSickkids.com, just to name a few. Many Canadian corporations are matching the gifts of their employees through Corporate Matching Gift Programs. Our staff works with the employee committees to plan the most successful fundraising activities possible, not only to benefit SickKids Foundation but also to help to build the team spirit and workplace morale of our workplace fundraising groups.
