SickKids survey reveals Canadian parents pass on 'giving gene' to children
Wednesday, November 22, 2006
The new SickKids Spirit of Giving survey found that four out of five Canadian parents pass on the so-called 'giving gene,' encouraging their children to donate to a charity and simply give back to others.
The national poll, conducted by Decima Research, surveyed Canadian parents with children 17-years-old or younger living in the household. Results revealed that nearly 89 per cent of all respondents placed a high priority on teaching philanthropy to their children, while 19 per cent of parents simply do not.
"We're pleased to see that most parents in Canada are passing on the 'giving gene' to the next generation and are helping to build caring communities," said Paula Roberts, vice president of Strategic Communications at the Foundation.
