Marnie's Rainbow Lounge Grand Re-Opening

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

Patients and families at The Hospital for Sick Children have a new space to call their own, thanks to the generous funding from Mattamy Homes Limited to SickKids Foundation.

The newly renovated Marnie’s Rainbow Lounge opened on January 23, 2007 at SickKids. It offers children a place where they can just be kids and explore the various computers, music players, movies or try their hand at a game of pool on a full-size pool table. There is also a new kitchen and space for relaxation.

Jane Darch, Child Life specialist and supervisor for Marnie’s Lounge, said this recreational area is a space where patients, families and friends can come together and bond.

“This was the little project that grew into a dream playroom,” Darch said. “(It’s) truly a ‘home away from home’ for kids when they come to the hospital.”

With fundraising efforts through its “Tour de Blue” cycling team, Mattamy Homes Limited reached new heights in 2006, collecting $390,000 for SickKids Foundation and Marnie’s Lounge.

Peter Gilgan, president and CEO of Mattamy Homes Limited said the new lounge provides a valuable space for those facing difficult times.

“We hope that the renovations to Marnie’s Lounge, including improved services, enhanced technology and increased comfort, will bring a smile to the faces of these brave children,” Gilgan said.
