SickKids largest community donor gives million reasons to smile
November 13, 2006
On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Smiles of Innocence Memorial Charity hosted its 9th annual gala in support of SickKids Foundation.
Held at Toronto’s Renaissance Praque Banquet and Convention Center, Smiles this year drew more than 1,000 community members wanting to make a difference in the lives of children. The event featured a 400-item silent auction, a live auction featuring twin ATV’s, a short film and an inspirational speech.
Smiles was founded by John and Anna Povegliano, in memory of their four-year-old son, Daniel, who passed away from a rare dermatological disease. Since 1998, the charity has raised more than $1.5 million to support research, development and technical equipment for The Hospital for Sick Children, making it one of the largest and most successful community fundraising groups at SickKids Foundation.
