November 9, 2011
Nine-year-old patient Connor Kozack, goes for a goal on the Great One, Wayne Gretzky, during a celebration event at SickKids marking TD's $15 million donation milestone, in Toronto, November 9, 2011.
On November 9, 2011, the generosity of TD Bank Group employees was celebrated by hockey's Great One, Wayne Gretzky, at The Hospital for Sick Children. TD employees have raised $15 million in donations for SickKids Foundation through a combination of in-branch and grassroots fundraising initiatives since 1994 through TD's support of Children's Miracle Network.
"TD's team effort exemplifies the amazing results we can achieve by working together – their support over the years has added up to help SickKids make a big difference for families in the community and at TD," said Wayne Gretzky, Hockey Great One and TD Brand Ambassador.
The milestone was recognized by hockey's Great One, Wayne Gretzky, who thanked TD employees for their 17-year-long commitment to SickKids. Gretzky was joined by four-year-old SickKids patient ambassador Hunter Kemp and his 16-year-old brother Josh Kemp, who spoke about what makes Hunter, who is a leukemia survivor, his "great one."
"We are so grateful to TD for its long-standing commitment to SickKids. I want to applaud the thousands of staff and TD customers who have raised more than $15 million for the urgent needs of the Hospital," said Ted Garrard, President and CEO of SickKids Foundation. "TD employees and customers' generous donations have allowed SickKids to continue to provide world-class medical care, invest in research to change the future of children's health and train doctors who care for children from across Canada."
The $15-million milestone was achieved through the fundraising efforts of employees from all across the GTA and Northern Ontario since 1994. TD employees raised funds through in-branch and grassroots initiatives, including customer donations, golf tournaments and sponsorships.
"TD's support and dedication over the past 17 years is truly commendable," said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer, Children's Miracle Network. "From monthly customer donations to organizing fundraisers to securing sponsorship, the employees at TD have worked tirelessly over the years to achieve this incredible milestone and make an impact at children's hospitals all across the country."
To celebrate TD's great ones, a plaque honouring their philanthropy will be displayed on the fountain under the Children's Miracle Network bridge in the Atrium at SickKids. The plaque represents the hard work, dedication and commitment of TD employees.
