His Royal Highness The Duke of York
Prince Andrew, Duke of YorkSickKids Foundation is proud that in 2007, HRH The Duke of York accepted an honorary role as its Royal Patron. This prestigious affiliation with the Royal family is an important reflection of the global significance and prominent role of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in advancing children's health.
HRH The Duke of York is the second son and the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Named Andrew Albert Christian Edward, he was known as Prince Andrew until his marriage, when he was created The Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh.
The Duke of York is Patron of, or associated with, more than 100 diverse organizations around the world. In particular, dealing with children's illness is one of The Duke of York's greatest interests. While HRH is Patron of a number of UK organizations in this area of work, SickKids is the only Canadian paediatric healthcare facility with which he is affiliated.
The Duke of York has many interests, but children remain at the heart of his philanthropic and patronage activities. In particular, HRH is passionate about enabling youth to fulfill their potential, and a significant aspect of this is giving them the best resources to a healthy life.
SickKids is acknowledged as a global leader in paediatric health research, education, and care. SickKids prides itself on a comprehensive model that integrates clinical care, research, and education in order to advance and improve children's health on a global scale.
SickKids Foundation is the hospital's partner in its endeavours; it strives to engage the community in philanthropy and inspire donors to invest in the health and well-being of society's future leaders. SickKids Foundation is honoured to have HRH The Duke of York as its Royal Patron, who will attend exclusive events and raise awareness for SickKids.
