NEWSTALK 1010 celebrates 30th year of Gift of Giving for SickKids

SickKids Foundation is pleased to announce that more than $217,000 was raised throughout this year’s NEWSTALK 1010 Gift of Giving for SickKids holiday broadcast.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the annual fundraising initiative which has raised over $42 million for The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) to date. This year’s donations will go towards a new operating suite at the hospital.

As in previous years, phones were ringing off the hook, children and their families laughed and played, and holiday-themed crafts were made. We were thrilled to see so many patients and their families join us throughout the event to help celebrate the festivities and share their stories of what it’s like to spend the holidays at SickKids.

NEWSTALK 1010’s Ryan Doyle and Jay Michaels hosted the four-hour broadcast live from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the hospital Atrium alongside hosts from across the station including Jerry Agar, Barb DiGiulio, John Moore and Jim Richards.

NEWSTALK 1010 announced today it had achieved a record 301 monthly donors on this 30th anniversary.

SickKids Foundation acknowledges the generous support of our sponsors and matching gift donors Sleep Country, Domino’s Pizza of Canada, as well as an Anonymous donor who made their matching gift in honour of one of our patient’s, Ella.

As always, the goal of the event is to help the almost 300 patients who have to stay at SickKids over the holidays miss home a little less. Each individual who donated will have their name written on a hanging ornament and displayed on the SickKids Giving Tree for all to enjoy during the holiday season. In our fight against childhood illness, our monthly donors fight for childhood, every single day.

We have once again seen remarkable support and generosity from our community. We thank those who have become a monthly donor and welcome them to the SickKids team.

If you weren’t able to donate during this year’s event, you can still make a contribution. Call 1-877-798-5437 or donate online.
