Our Believe Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does SickKids need to have a fundraising campaign?

We decided to have a fundraising campaign because the costs for many of the things that make SickKids a world leader in children's health research and care are not covered by government funding. We rely on private donations to ensure that we are able to continue to attract the best staff in the world and provide the equipment they need to deliver breakthrough research and care.

Why is SickKids conducting an advertising campaign?

SickKids Foundation is conducting a Public Education Program to help the public better understand how we serve children in the GTA and beyond. We hope that by sharing this information, we will inspire people to make a gift to SickKids so that we will be able to continue on with this important work.

What is the capital campaign raising money for?

The three areas of focus for the capital campaign are:
1. to foster research so that discoveries quickly become new treatments, $150 M target
2. to create the best environment in the world for kids' healthcare, $260 M target
3. to advocate for kids' health and well-being. $90 M target

Will the money raised through the fundraising campaign be used to balance the hospital's budget?

No. Money raised as part of the fundraising campaign does not directly support the hospital's patient care operating budget, which is largely funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Money raised through fundraising supports research, equipment, and other programs that ensure SickKids remains a world leader in children's health research and care.

How do I get a copy of the television and/or newspaper ad?

Please visit our Multimedia Section to view television ads and other media.

Are the people in the advertising materials real SickKids staff and patients?

Wherever possible, real SickKids staff and patients were used in the advertising materials. In some cases, actors were used when physical demands for young patients were intense or when scheduling challenges for medical staff arose. All of the children featured in the print advertisements are real SickKids patients. To learn more about their stories, visit Our Kids.
