Your donations at work

Here is what your donations supported in September 2011

SickKids Foundation is driven by the belief that improving the health and well-being of children is one of the most powerful ways we can change our community. It is our motivation for everything we do.

Last year, the Foundation provided $57.9 million to SickKids to support priorities in care, research and learning. In September 2011 alone, $4,064,179 was granted to the Hospital to bring us one step closer to reaching our vision: Healthier Children. A Better World.

Here are some of the projects this funding supported:

Research

  • $100,000 to support genetic research at the Garron Family Cancer Centre
  • $97,068 to support Dr. Hans-Michael Dosch’s diabetes research
  • $91,500 to support research by Dr. Gabrielle deVeber into paediatric stroke

Learning

  • $100,000 to support SickKids’ Programme for Global Paediatric Research, which improves child health in developing countries
  • $17,000 for a cardiology fellowship at the Labatt Family Heart Centre
  • $3,500 to assist summer student Marshall Zhang further develop his award-winning research project at the Cystic Fibrosis Centre

Care

  • $29,127 to purchase 16 new cardiac monitor pagers for the seventh and eighth floors of the Hospital
  • $14,000 to purchase surgical equipment for the Burns and Plastics Clinic
