Two years ago, Ashley Logan received a liver transplant from her aunt at SickKids. Now, the four-year-old is giving back so more families can benefit from the world-class research and care available at the Hospital.

The SickKids Liver Transplant Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Last month, a smiling Ashley opened the Toronto Stock Exchange to celebrate the occasion. On Saturday, Sept. 17, along with her family and friends, she walked around the Toronto Zoo to raise money for liver transplant research. “Celebrate LIFE at the Zoo” is one of a series of year-round events organized by her family in support of SickKids.

Ashley was just two years old when her parents, Jeff and Sherrie, noticed her skin was turning yellow. After a series of tests, doctors diagnosed her with acute liver failure and determined she needed a liver transplant immediately. Fortunately for Ashley, her aunt Cheryl was a suitable match. This was life-saving treatment for Ashley and her family formed Ashley’s Angels to broaden the support they would be able to give.

“It’s truly an amazing Hospital,” says Sherrie.

The Liver Transplant Program at SickKids is the largest paediatric liver transplant program in Canada and one of the largest in North America. It performs 60 per cent of all paediatric liver transplants in Canada, with results that are unsurpassed worldwide.

Thanks to our community supporters like Ashley’s Angels and their vision to support research, more children are able to recover from their illnesses and experience the simple pleasures of childhood, like trips to the zoo.
