Meet Katherine
Child's condition: Cochlear implant recipient (hearing loss)

When Katherine was a baby, her parents noticed that she had difficulty hearing. They would stand behind her and clap but she would show no reaction. Doctors at SickKids confirmed their fear, Katherine had virtually no hearing. She received a cochlear implant that was surgically inserted into each of her ears. Today, thanks to SickKids, Katherine is able to hear and communicate with her family and friends.
