Meet Siena

Child's condition: Atrial septal defect and congenital benign tumour

Siena

Siena

When Siena was just a few weeks old, her paediatrician detected a heart murmur and discovered Siena had a hole in her heart. He referred her to a cardiologist at The Hospital for Sick Children. Then, at only one month old, Siena developed a mosquito-like bite near her left eye. Dermatologists at SickKids diagnosed this "bite" as a congenital benign tumour. Siena has undergone two surgeries at SickKids. In November 2007, surgeons repaired the hole in her heart and in March 2008, a plastic surgeon removed her tumour.

With two surgeries under her belt and multiple visits to four clinics at SickKids, it's no wonder Siena, 7, wants to be like all the people who help her at SickKids when she grows up.
