SickKids Leaders
A Message from the Chair
Dear Leader,
For many of us, the challenges of the global economy over the past two years have created anxiety and uncertainty unlike any we’ve ever known. There were heart stopping moments that were beyond our control, days when we had to work harder than ever before, and celebrations of wins, big and small. Lately, I’ve found myself thinking that these ups and downs don’t hold a candle to the kind of emotional rollercoaster that so many families who walk through the doors of The Hospital for Sick Children every day must experience. This context is a humbling one and has acted as a good reminder for me of how important it is to appreciate the fortune of good health, and the critical role that we play in supporting SickKids.
Our current group of SickKids Leader Volunteers comprises of 233 dynamic professionals from over 137 companies. We are one of the Foundation’s most successful “education based” programs. We each make a commitment of $1,000 or more annually, and agree to reach out to our peers and networks. As leaders, we commit to educating people about SickKids and to asking them to make gifts at this level, find new Leaders and build the Leaders community. We work together to protect and advance children’s health care for generations to come. Through this program, SickKids Leaders act as ambassadors for the Hospital and help to strengthen its connection with the community.
This year, as SickKids embarks upon a project of a generation, our role is more critical than ever.
In May, SickKids announced that it would build a $400 million, 21-storey, 750,000 square foot Research & Learning Tower at the corner of Bay and Elm Streets. The Tower will bring together over 2,400 research staff who are currently dispersed across six different locations across the city. It is constructed in such a way as to create opportunities for collaborative interactions between clinical and research colleagues so that doctors and scientists can work more closely together to reduce the time it takes to translate research discoveries into improved patient care.
SickKids Leaders has set an ambitious goal to raise $4.5 million this year. I look forward to working with each and every one of you to meet – and even surpass – this goal.
SickKids has made great strides in treating childhood disease, but what has been accomplished pales in comparison to the enormous challenges that will face children in the years to come. We are grateful that you have chosen to become a SickKids Leader and we look forward to working with you. Together, we will continue to make a difference.
With sincere thanks,
Philip Lieberman
