MJ’s standing up to the cystic fibrosis that affects his lungs

Diagnosed as a baby, MJ has cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that affects the lungs and digestive system.

MJ has grown up participating in regular childhood activities, but has daily rituals to cope with his condition. MJ takes 22-26 pills a day, including pancreatic enzymes with every meal and every snack. Since CF causes mucus build-up in the lungs, MJ breathes into a mask every morning and night, and also does percussion therapy, which helps to loosen the mucus.

SickKids patient standing strong

“I love SickKids. No matter what, they are there for you.”

MJ’s mom, Lisa, feels like she is in safe hands when she comes to SickKids. “I love SickKids. No matter what, they are there for you.”

SickKids is a world-renowned leader in CF research and care. In 1989, SickKids led a research team that discovered the gene responsible for the condition. This breakthrough has increased life expectancy, and led to improved treatment for CF patients just like MJ.
