Newstalk 1010 Gift of Giving for SickKids

SickKids Foundation is pleased to announce that more than $250,000 was raised through this year’s NEWSTALK 1010 Gift of Giving for SickKids holiday broadcast.

As in previous years, phones were ringing off the hook, kids were laughing and tons of festive crafts were made. We were thrilled to see many patients and their families join us throughout the event to help celebrate the holiday season and share stories of what it’s like to spend the holidays at SickKids.

The goal of the event is always to help make the holidays a little brighter for those who can’t go home.

NEWSTALK 1010’s Ryan Doyle hosted the live four-hour broadcast, held in partnership with other Bell Media radio stations including 99.9 Virgin Radio and TSN 1050, and along with celebrity hosts from across the network.

We would also like to acknowledge the generous support of our Hour of Giving sponsors: Samsung Hope for Children, The Hudson’s Bay Company Foundation, itravel2000 and Canadian Tire.

Special guests this year included Mayor John Tory on his first hospital visit as Mayor of Toronto, Toronto Maple Leafs alumni Mark Osborne who signed autographs for the kids and answered donors’ calls, and Canadian singer Tyler Shaw who performed holiday songs. Families also spent time in the Hudson's Bay Company Foundation Winter Lounge making holiday-themed crafts.

The goal of the event is always to help make the holidays a little brighter for those who can’t go home. For every individual who signed up to be a Miracle Club member, a child who is staying in the hospital over the holidays received a special stuffed animal. Each individual who donated also had their name written on a hanging ornament and displayed on the SickKids Giving Tree for all to enjoy during the holiday season.

We’ve once again seen such incredible support from our community. If you weren’t able to donate during this year’s event, there is still a way to make a contribution. Text SICKKIDS to 45678 to donate $5 to SickKids Foundation, call 1-877-798-5437 or donate online.

The SickKids Radiothon, which used to be held each spring, has raised funds for SickKids for more than 28 years. To date, the initiative has raised more than $42 million.
