Weekend for SickKids comes to close: raises $500,000

SickKids Foundation is pleased to announce that more than $500,000 was raised throughout this year’s first Weekend for SickKids radio broadcast.

Four Bell Media Radio stations had the phones ringing off the hook, kids were laughing and activities were taking place in the hospital atrium all weekend. We were thrilled to see more than 45 patients and their families participate throughout the event to help officially kick off registration for the Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk by sharing their SickKids experiences and stories from the Adventure Walk in previous years.

We’ve once again seen such incredible support from our community.
Well-known radio personalities including Roger Ashby, Ryan Doyle, Dave Naylor and Tucker from Bell Media radio stations 104.5 CHUM FM, NEWTALK 1010, TSN 1050 and 99.9 Virgin Radio hosted the live twelve-hour broadcast over two-days. Special guests this year included television personalities Ben Mulroney, Host of CTV’s ETALK, who called in during the event, and Traci Melchor, Co-Host of CTV’s The Social, who was on-site at the hospital for the final hour.

The goal of the event was to encourage registration for The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk, as well as to generate new Miracle Club members for the hospital. For every individual who signed up to be a Miracle Club member, a child who is staying in the hospital over the weekend received a special stuffed animal. What’s more, for every Registration and Miracle Club member, a generous donor, Lilibeth Caberto, gave an additional $100 to SickKids. We’ve once again seen such incredible support from our community. If you weren’t able to register for the Adventure Walk or donate during this weekend’s event, there is still a way to make a contribution. Text SICKKIDS to 45678 to donate $5 to SickKids Foundation, call 1-877-798-5437 or go online to weekendforsickkids.com. The SickKids Radiothon, which used to be held each spring, has raised funds for SickKids for more than 28 years. To date, the initiative has raised more than $42 million.

All donations from this year’s event go directly to The Possibilities Fund at SickKids Foundation. For SickKids, it’s the most flexible source of funding, and therefore one with the most potential to transform children’s health. This special Weekend for SickKids edition was brought to you by Canaccord Genuity, SportChek, and PetSmart.
