From Mongolia to Toronto

Since 1979, The Herbie Fund has paid the surgical costs for patients while they’re at SickKids for life-saving treatment that’s not available in their home country. (SickKids surgeons donate their time and expertise).
Little girl at SickKids

To date, the Herbie Fund has provided life-saving (or life-altering) surgical care at SickKids to over 780 children from 107 countries. Children like Uyanga and Dolgorjav from Mongolia.

Now, both girls have had their surgery, and are doing well.

Uyanga’s condition was the most severe form of atrioventricular canal defect – her lungs were filling with blood. Dolgorjav suffered from tetralogy of fallot, a heart condition involving four defects. Both conditions can be treated with surgery. Without, they are fatal. Dolgorjav’s parents were told that the expertise to perform her surgery wasn’t available in Mongolia, while Uyanga’s family was told she had three months left. Both families lacked the resources to pay for the life-saving surgery. Which is where the Herbie Fund made the difference.

Now, both girls have had their surgery, and are doing well. Donations to the Herbie Fund support our vision: healthier children, a better world – a vision that comes to life in Uyanga and Dolgorjav’s smiles today.
