Ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrates another step forward in the campus redevelopment project
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and SickKids Foundation welcomed board members, campaign donors, SickKids staff and patient ambassador families to the new Patient Support Centre (PSC) for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the end of major construction activities on the building. This milestone achievement marks the critical first step in the organization’s multi-year campus transformation project known as ‘Project Horizon’ and was made possible thanks to the 1.3 million donors who supported the SickKids VS: Limits Campaign.
"The Patient Support Centre is a critical piece of infrastructure that will provide essential education, training and collaboration space "
“I am honoured to stand alongside this extraordinary leadership team to express my gratitude and celebrate the many individuals who, through their support, have helped build this inspiring new space,” says Dr. Ronald Cohn, President and CEO of SickKids. “The Patient Support Centre is a critical piece of infrastructure that will provide essential education, training and collaboration space for our clinical and non-clinical staff to support the best possible care for our patients and families, as well as hospital operations.”
The PSC will house the SickKids Learning Institute, which supports more than 1,000 world-class trainees, students and learners annually. A key element to advance training is the new state-of-the-art Simulation Centre in the PSC for hands-on teaching in a technology-enabled, flexible and modern space. Additionally, in the coming years, the building is slated to accommodate modernized clinical space across three floors, making up approximately 20 outpatient clinics, with an additional phlebotomy space on the main level. Many outpatient clinical leaders will have already transitioned over to the building, which will allow them to collaborate closely to manage clinical operations.
“This momentous ribbon-cutting event is all about celebrating the people and partners who have shown their passion for the future we are building together,” says Jennifer Bernard, President and CEO of SickKids Foundation. “The Patient Support Centre is a tangible example of what the SickKids community can accomplish when we come together as one. From campaign donors to frontline and support staff within the hospital, this event signifies our gratitude towards every single individual who has played a role in helping us realize this first step in our reimagined campus of the future.”
As a cornerstone piece in the organization’s campus redevelopment project, the PSC will be a hub that connects clinical care with research and learning initiatives undertaken across the SickKids campus.
