In 10 short years, Anisa has experienced more doctor visits and surgeries than most people do in their lifetime. She has been a patient at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) since she was born and is currently working with her health care team to improve her quality of life and live like any other 10-year-old should.
Meet Anisa
Dr. David Chitayat, a Physician in Clinical and Metabolic Genetics at SickKids, diagnosed Anisa with a rare genetic disorder, Larsen syndrome.
Since her arrival at SickKids as a baby, Anisa has undergone 10 operations, including two to straighten her neck, one to correct her cleft palate and one to correct her dislocated knee and hip. Now, Anisa has two hearing aids and is followed by Ear, Nose and Throat when she is at the hospital. She uses a brace to help her walk and straighten her legs. Her SickKids team is determined to have Anisa comfortably walking by herself. In September 2014 Anisa was told that she can stop wearing her braces.
Anisa’s response to a short life full of doctor appointments, operations and life threatening health challenges? “Never give up.” In fact, she feels lucky to have Larsen syndrome because it has led her to new friends and memories at SickKids. Anisa and her family feel confident her SickKids team will continue to help her every step of the way.

* For every individual who signs up to be a Miracle Club member during the four hour NEWSTALK 1010’s Gift of Giving for SickKids holiday broadcast, a child who is staying in the hospital over the holidays will receive a stuffed animal. Every individual who donates will also have their name written on a hanging ornament and displayed on the SickKids Giving Tree for all to enjoy during the holiday season.
