Donor Stories – Dave Sarin

Dave Sarin has one very important reason to give to SickKids on a monthly basis through his employer, TD Bank Group – his 10-year-old boy, Sachin. At three months of age, Sachin underwent major surgery to repair a cleft lip. Since then, SickKids has been an integral part of his family’s life. Today, Sachin is a beautiful, healthy and happy little boy, thanks in part to the Cleft Lip and Palate Team at SickKids. SickKids has the largest Cleft Lip and Palate program in Canada, with 3,500 patients from infancy to 18 years in active treatment and each year, an additional 175 enter the program.

Patients with the condition experience a separation in the upper lip. Cleft lip can occur if certain parts of the nose and upper jaw do not fuse properly during the early weeks of pregnancy. If left untreated, a cleft lip can present feeding, hearing, teething and speech challenges.

“My son Sachin has a great heart and great courage.”

“My son Sachin has a great heart and great courage and perseverance because of SickKids phenomenal programs,” explains Dave. “I donate to SickKids to ensure more children can continue to have access to the same level of world-class care, should they ever need it.”

Dave is one of 15 TD Bank Group employees whose powerful SickKids story was shown at a recent event at SickKids. An Evening with Great Ones celebrated the $15-million fundraising milestone by TD Bank Group employees for SickKids through Children’s Miracle Network since 1994. Wayne Gretzky, hockey’s Great One, was also in attendance to honour the remarkable individuals.

Congratulations to TD Bank Group and all of your employees on this tremendous achievement.
