Donor Spotlight | Week of February 3

Whitby Oshawa Honda

We are so pleased to welcome Whitby Oshawa Honda to the family of SickKids supporters! Whitby Oshawa Honda’s gift worked extra hard by supporting 3D Printing, a priority area for the Hospital, and by providing matching donations for the Foundation’s “Giving Tuesday” fundraising campaign.

Whitby Oshawa Honda has been proudly serving the Durham Region for over 30 years and we’re proud that they have chosen to make SickKids one of its charitable partners.

Hopeful Minds

SickKids would like to thank Hopeful Minds for their continuous support of the hospital. They have been a valued partner since 2011 after being inspired by Lauren Silber, a 12-year-old girl who was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour in 2009. With the dedicated team of Dr. Peter Dirks, and the paediatric neurological staff at The Hospital for Sick Children, she was treated and able to overcome her illness. She has been disease free since 2009 and is thriving, healthy and happy.

Hopeful Minds raises awareness and funds for the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning as well as brain tumour (stem cell) research conducted by Dr. Dirks and his research team. The organization was formed by a group of dedicated parents, friends and volunteers who run the Scotiabank half marathon for Lauren and other children like her. To date, Hopeful Minds has raised close to $900,000 in support of paediatric brain tumour research.

We wish to thank the Silber family and friends and volunteers of Hopeful Minds, for their dedication to helping SickKids provide the best care possible to our patients and their families.
