A memorable week for SickKids kid Jordan

Just days before Christmas 2011, Jordan had an accident in the schoolyard at recess that involved him bumping his head. Shortly after the incident, he was found lying on the bathroom floor of his school. Jordan was rushed to his local hospital where a CT scan revealed he had suffered a stroke and was bleeding on the right side of his brain. He was rushed to SickKids, and on Christmas Eve, he underwent the first of many life-saving surgeries.

Fast-forward almost three years to the now 10-year-old boy who was recently chosen to represent SickKids as the 2014-15 Children’s Miracle Network Champion presented by Walmart. His innate ability to capture anyone’s attention with his energy and positivity, combined with his determination and fearlessness (and not to mention his contagious smile) made him a wonderful choice to represent the 100,000 children who visit SickKids each year.

SickKids: Meet Jordan - 2014-15 Children’s Miracle Network Champion

One of Jordan’s first duties as a Champion was to attend the annual Momentum event in Orlando, Florida, where he had the chance to meet the Champions representing 50 children’s hospitals from across the United States along with 11 other Children’s Miracle Network Champions representing Canada.

"Meeting the other kids from other hospitals and hearing their stories was inspiring."
We would like to thank Walmart Canada (who has raised more than $1.5 million in support of SickKids this year) as well as the Air Canada Foundation (who flew each of the Canadian Champions and their families to Orlando and is also a supporter of the hospital transport program at SickKids) for providing such an inspiring and memorable opportunity for Jordan and his family.

Momentum, which took place from November 12 to 14, provided Jordan with some amazing experiences, which he shares below:

Just got back from the most awesome trip ever to ‘The Happiest Place on Earth’. As the Champion for SickKids, I got to go to Disney World with other kids from across Canada and the US. Meeting the other kids from other hospitals and hearing their stories was inspiring. I loved to share my story too.

The best part of our trip was when we first arrived and there were so many people to greet us and cheer for us when we got off the bus. It made me feel like a celebrity! They had smoky-coloured popcorn potion for us to eat. It was yummy.

At the Magic Kingdom we got to do so much stuff. I got to be Mrs. Potts in Enchanted Tales with Belle, ride the Thunder Mountain Rollercoaster, and meet Anna and Elsa from Frozen. My brother and I got to go swimming at our hotel and see a concert with Lady Antebellum and even go on stage with them. Another awesome time was going on stage to get a medal from Nick Cannon! Also, meeting Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers.

Thanks to SickKids, Children’s Miracle Network and Walmart for giving me and my brother the opportunity to go to Florida! It was a spectacular event that I will remember for the rest of my life.
