Celebrating 10 years of AboutKidsHealth

Rooted in a vision to empower children and families to become partners in their own healthcare, AboutKidsHealth is now a leading source of child health information in Canada and helps families around the world understand more about children’s health.

Here are just a few of AboutKidsHealth’s achievements since 2005.

  • Health A-Z: a library of almost 1,000 articles covering a wide range of common and rare child health conditions
  • Over 15 Resource Centres: detailed hubs of information on topics such as pregnancy and babies, hemophilia, pain management, autism spectrum disorder, asthma and diabetes
  • Over 200 videos of patient stories, first aid demonstrations and insights on topics such as bullying, epilepsy, leukemia and ADHD
  • Over 3,000 paediatric-specific medical illustrations
  • Just for Kids: a section especially for children to help them learn more about their health through child-friendly games, quizzes, animations and colourful one-pagers
  • Inuit Health Matters, a dedicated website and booklet for new and expecting families in at-risk populations
  • Information in multiple languages, including French, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Urdu and Tamil
  • Steady increase in web traffic, from one million visits a year (2011) to one million visits a month (2015)

AboutKidsHealth’s achievements would not have been possible without the expertise of SickKids collaborators, the generosity of sponsors and the dedicated efforts of a diverse and creative team skilled in medical writing and editing, medical illustration, web design, graphics, videography, animation, research, partner outreach and marketing.

Next priorities for the AboutKidsHealth site are to make it easier to use across different platforms (mobile, desktop and tablet) and continue nurturing its relationships with SickKids staff, families and patients.
