Our in-hospital lab develops tiny tools and big ideas to solve real clinical problems
Combining surgical robotics, medical imaging, and surgical simulation, CIGITI is working to enable minimally invasive, image-guided procedures, which are less painful, faster, safer and produce better results. CIGITI unites surgeons, radiologists, engineers and software developers to transform surgical practice through technological innovation.
SickKids is the only hospital in Canada with an in-house lab dedicated to the development of novel medical technologies. CIGITI is a noisy, bustling workshop of engineers, computer scientists and medical personnel working together to design, build and test unique tools, machines and software.
Our vision is for CIGITI to be the Hospital’s innovation and 3D-printing hub—a central facility where physicians can request a prototype of a new tool, or a 3D-model of an upcoming surgical case. CIGITI will drive pioneering projects combining robotics and live imaging, and commercialize new devices that will tangibly improve the patient experience. The potential to apply CIGITI's unique expertise to solve clinical problems across the Hospital - and beyond - is massive.
