Creating state-of-the-art surgical spaces with more room for technology, healing and comfort.
The volume and complexity of surgeries performed at SickKids are increasing, and require that we modernize our outdated facilities. Some of our operating suites are more than 25 years old; equipment is outdated and room configurations can’t keep up with the most current and constantly advancing surgical technologies.
As a highly specialized children’s research hospital, SickKids performs more surgeries—roughly 12,000 a year—than any other paediatric hospital in the country. Patients from around the world come here for intricate procedures on the heart, brain, and spinal cord, as well as for facial reconstructions, transplantations, and cutting-edge orthopaedic surgeries, among others.
Our vision is to ensure children—no matter how complex their illness—have access to top-tier surgical care in an environment designed for optimal healing and comfort.
We are often the last resort for children with highly complex surgical needs. For patients, new and better-equipped ORs will mean less pain, fewer complications, faster recoveries and improved outcomes.
